Gilded Butterfly Garden
by Sharon Chinn
This project is quicker than it looks. It is painted on a laser cut overlay plaque from Creative Arts Lifestyle. Paint the flower design on the back panel to fit in the framed opening, and you simply paint some background colors on the areas that fit behind the laser cutouts for the butterfly and leaves. I’ve painted this design with DecoArt Traditions, but I just use a few colors, so you can easily substitute some Americana colors of your choice. You can even play and change the color of the flowers if you wish. After the painting is done, I rouged some gold metallics around the edges of the frame to highlight the leaves and butterflies, and added some optional detailing by stenciling some metallic checks and painting some gold scrolls to repeat the laser cut scrolls in the overlay.
The pdf file includes 30+ step by step photos of the painting process.
